Abstract
Rapid residential and industrial expansion in the Phoenix, Arizona, area has caused local transportation agencies to form a unique public/private partnership, named AZTech, of more than 30 partners, to seek ways to reduce travel time and improve traveler safety and the overall quality of life. AZTech is using advanced communication technology to integrate the region's transportation systems and improve both travel conditions and air quality. It is comprised of the following programs: integrating transportation, enhancing traffic management, improving public transit, and informing travelers.
