Abstract
The results are summarized of a study which involved the survey of current practices, and the development of guidelines for use by departmental personnel of State Departments of transportation and metropolitan transit authorities. Quick reference summaries of the guidelines for personnel considering bus-related street improvements are presented. The data which are tabulated include service criteria and service areas that encourage land use and development patterns that are conducive to efficient bus services, route planning considerations, and considerations for locating bus service support facilities, such as stops and passenger amenities. The proper location of a bus stop is also covered, as well as bus facility design guidelines, and bus operations guidelines.
