Abstract
The background is reviewed, and the design features and construction are described of Tampa Florida's Marion Street Transit Parkway, a 9-block, attractive, and functional bus mall. The parkway is planned for the growth in transit service planned for the downtown Tampa area. The transit parkway concept was chosen from 5 alternatives because it was superior in terms of aesthetics, safety, operations, and accessibility to major employment areas. The urban design objectives that guided the conceptual design objectives are listed. The construction took 17 months and businesses were not disrupted.
