Abstract
A multiagent approach to the construction of decision support systems (DSS) has become increasingly popular in the transportation sector. This approach reduces design complexity, while adequately supporting a dialogue-based stance on decision support interactions. This paper outlines a design method for the construction of agent-based DSS. Setting out from an organizational and communicative model of decision support environments, the authors present an abstract architecture for multiagent DSS. The authors demonstrate their approach by applying the abstract architecture to design prototype DSS for road traffic management and bus fleet management scenarios.
