Abstract
This paper presents a statistical analysis of bus travel trends in the U.K., covering a period from the early 1970s to the present day. Statistical models are developed based on data to the mid 1980s which are then used to 'forecast' trends in the later years. As well as the effects of economic trends and industry fares and service level changes, this enables a general assessment to be made of the effects on patronage of the deregulation of many bus services in 1986 and of the accompanying restructuring of the industry.
