Abstract
This volume, Volume 3 of TCRP Report 84, presents the findings of Task 6, "Web-Based Training and Certification (WBT)," of Transit Cooperative Research Program (TCRP) Project J-09, "e-Transit: Electronic Business Strategies for Public Transportation." The research was designed to explore the potential of WBT to provide cost-effective, high-quality training to the transit industry. The resulting findings strongly support the perspective that the transit industry can and should move more fully into the WBT arena. However, the transit industry has been slow in adopting new technologies in general and is constrained in this area by the absence of a knowledge and resource base that agencies can use to identify WBT needs, approaches, requirements, and resources. The Multisystems, Inc., project team designed this e-document, with its numerous Internet hyperlinks to transit industry and general business training resources, to begin bridging the knowledge gap described by the research findings. This report and the Transit Training Resource (TTR) web page developed during this project should serve as a first step in the effort to make WBT a reality for more transit agencies. Both products will allow interested transit agency professionals to begin learning immediately about WBT and about what others have already accomplished within and beyond the transit industry and to access resources and services for adding WBT to the training menu for transit staff.
