Abstract
The main focus of this article is to review and evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of system dynamics (SD) with respect to its suitability and appropriateness in transportation modeling. This evaluation helps in appreciating how the SD modeling style can contribute to understanding better the relationships between elements of the transport system and between transport and its environment. It establishes the ease with which system dynamics can be applied to construct useful tools for testing alternative transport-related policies
